Week 1
Everyone has different virtues but they have created them into bad habits that they will not notice. I for one have many but these are a few that I have chosen to improve on: my organization skills, being compliant and thankful. Through all the years that I have gone to school, I have never organized myself that well and I want to learn different ways I can progress on that. Apart from that, in school or at home I have a tendency of being a very stubborn person so I want to learn to be more compliant with things. Last but not least is being thankful. It has always been very difficult for me to be thankful about the gifts or gestures people do to me. Now here are the reasons why I have chosen these three virtues.
To start off, I wanna talk about my organizations skills. I have never been the best to keeping everything organized. I tend to either lose or leave things at home very easily. I come from a family where everything has to be put a certain way and I have to always have my things organized. Once my mother was taking me to school and she asked if I brought everything and when I check I remember that I forgot to bring a book. My mother was very furious and did not talk to me for the rest of the car ride. I have learned from this and many other experiences that I am creating a bad habit. This habit is benefiting me negatively so I want to change that. What I plan on doing is to try and write everything down that has to do with bringing or doing things for school. When I get home I will rewrite those things on my board and try to keep doing this consistently. This can also work with doing things at home. I will create a list of the chores or errands I need to do so when I leave my house I have and did everything.
In addition I would like to be a more compliant person. I have always been a very stubborn person and it is something I never notice I do. I have had many arguments with my family because of my stubbornness. They usually want me to consider what they are saying but I ignore them. In the end, they are always right and then it makes me feel bad because I didn't listen to them but I was too stubborn to think about what they were saying. When it comes to debating about ideas or topics, I always chose one and stick with it forever even if it was dismissed. I set my mind to that one specific thing and nobody can change it which is quite horrible if you think about it. I want to try to be more open to different things because we have to be open minded to the options they give us. I plan on trying to consider all the possibilities even if I do not like all of them. Keeping an open mind about things always helps you learn new things so I can grow from this.
My final virtue is to be thankful. For this virtue I have a story behind why I want to be more thankful. When I was very little I would always go out with my older cousin to many places and every time she would buy me or give me something I never say thank you and she would always tell me, “Maryann what do you say?” I always respond by saying thank you because I knew what she meant. It is not that I do not like the gift but I find it difficult to say thank you. By the time I got older I noticed that not saying thank you was disrespectful. I also think that people go out of their way to do this gesture and you won’t even be thankful about receiving it which makes them think you do not care. I would like to change that by always keeping in mind that saying this is not only respectful but it shows people that you care about them and what they do to you. I will be more on top of this virtue to show people that what they do to me matters.
Well those are my three virtues. These virtues that I have created into bad habits will be improved slowly. Through the help of friends and family I will be able to complete my goal which is to survive high school. High school is a new chapter in my life that will be more challenging and I will face more virtues that turn into bad habits but without these things it will not give you the real "high school" experience. Hope you enjoy and in my upcoming blogs I will give you more updates about this new adventure I'm taking on!
